Replacing the Battery in a Sensor Mote

How-To Video

Note: Before you begin, obtain the magnet, a Waites-approved battery, and a 5/16-inch deep socket or equivalent tool.

To replace the battery in a sensor mote:

  1. Use a 1 5/16-inch deep socket or an equivalent tool to open the sensor mote. Place the tool over the hexagonal nut and turn it to the left to loosen the top cover.

  2. Unscrew and remove the hexagonal nut, then lift off the cover to reveal the board and battery.

  3. Before replacing the battery, drain the capacitor by tapping the sensor with a magnet. A blinking light will confirm it has been drained.

  4. Insert a Waites-approved battery. The sensor will turn on automatically.

Note that using non-approved batteries will void the warranty and can damage sensors.

  5. Reassemble the components in reverse order by replacing the cap and then the hexagonal nut to secure it.
